Why do we give summer assignments?
During the school year, students engage daily in processes that cultivate strong reading habits.
Research shows that students actually lose one to three months of learning during the summer when they do not engage in academic activities.
All students have two assignments: one for Mathematics and one for Language Arts.
MATHEMATICS
All sixth grade students have the same mathematics review, but for students
entering 7th and 8th grades, your review packet is dependent upon the math course for which you are enrolled in the 2009-2010
school year. If you are unsure of your math course enrollment, you may call the Guidance Department at Old Mill Middle
North at 410-969-5950 x306.
All students were given the math assignment in their current math course.
We're having some webpage difficulties right now and are unable to load the assignments. We will continue to try
to load them below so you can download and print them at home, but they If you lose your packet and it is not downoadable
below, please drop by the school to pick one up. Call for the summer office hours. 410-969-5950.
LANGUAGE
ARTS
All students in all grades are required to choose one book from the OMMN reading list and complete
a reading log entry for each chapter of the book. For students entering 6th grade, entering 7th grade, and those entering
8th grade who are not members of the IB MYP cohort, this is the only summer reading requirement, and they
will use this information to complete a project once they return to school in August, under the supervision of their Language
Arts teacher. For students entering the 8th grade IB MYP cohort, they have additional work to do - make sure to get
the correct assignment, please!!
All students were given the reading assignment in their current
language arts course.
If you have another book that you would like to choose for
this assignment, it must be an AWARD WINNING BOOK (Black Eyed Susan, Newbury, Caldecott, etc).
